General and chronic health issues
Women are complicated! We are a fine balance of hormones, nerve and stress pathways that sometimes don't seem to take much to disrupt and lead to all sorts symptoms. Don't ignore your body!! Gut disturbances such as IBS, menstrual cycle issues such as painful period, menopause symptoms and overactive bladder to name but a few, can all be helped by firstly understanding what is going on in your body and why. From there, you can start to work out what your body needs to recover and subsequently feel more like you should again. Things you can do to improve your stress response, what foods are good and bad for you, what supplements might help, what exercise you can do can all be discussed and a course of acupuncture to help give your body a good push in the right direction.
Chronic health issues, although more complicated to treat can certainly be improved upon and become more manageable. Conditions such as endometriosis, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia can be addressed. The aim is to treat the cause of the problem and get long lasting improvements, and not each individual symptom. Treatments are personalised to each individual as no two people are the same.
Postnatal Check-up
Give yourself a full body check after delivering your baby. Checking the state of the abdominal, pelvic and back muscles will be carried out, any issues will be identified and ways to treat and rehab this advised. Any continence and bowel issues can be discussed, and if needed a pelvic floor examination can be carried out to ensure that the muscles are working correctly and pelvic floor exercises being done effectively. Exercise advice will be given based on the findings and how to progress these exercises effectively will be planned out.
Most effective when any injured tissues are well healed (eg. caesarean scar/episiotomy) at about 6-8 weeks onwards.
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Any muscular issues with the pelvic floor such as weakness or activity can be treated by our pelvic floor specialist. Stress urinary and bowel incontinence issues can arise from weak pelvic floor muscles, and pelvic pains, such as painful intercourse, can be as a result of an overactive pelvic floor. Assessment and treatment of those muscles can be provided, and guided exercises and specific treatments be issued.
Pregnancy Physiotherapy / Dry Needling / Acupuncture
Pelvic girdle pain affects around 1 in 5 pregnant women. Many of these symptoms can be alleviated or significantly reduced with correct treatment and exercise advice. Usually a combination of massage or dry needling alleviates the cause and the exercise helps prevent the pain from coming back.
Acupuncture for many pregnancy symptoms such as heartburn, insomnia, nausea and morning sickness can also be given.
Fertility Acupuncture
Acupuncture has many studies demonstrating the benefits to fertility and during IVF, improving the chances of success. It does this through regulating the hormone and stress balances through its positive influence on the brain and neural networks.
